本開発事例では、1970年代のヒッピームーブメントにインスパイアされた刺繍シャツを、現代的な視点でアレンジした一着をご紹介します。

生地には、古着のシャンブレーシャツに見られる風合いを再現した特別なテキスタイルを使用。綿100％で、ドライなタッチとナチュラルな膨らみが特徴です。この質感を表現するために、糸の段階から設計を行い、紡績レベルから細部にまでこだわりました。織布には、Shuttle Notes の代名詞とも言える力織機を用い、クラフト感のある表情豊かな生地を実現しています。

刺繍は、70年代当時の雰囲気を忠実に再現すべく、味のある手法を用いながらも、モダンなアレンジを加えました。特にステッチラインはあえて見せないように仕上げることで、ヴィンテージ特有の柔らかな印象を演出しています。

背中に施されたアイコニックなサンダーバードモチーフや、フロントポケットに見られるジオメトリックなデザインは、当時の自由で創造的な精神を象徴しています。

A Modern Take on a 70s-Inspired Embroidered Chambray Shirt

– Vintage Aesthetics Reimagined Through Japanese Textile Craftsmanship –

This development project showcases a reinterpretation of a 1970s hippie-inspired embroidery shirt, crafted with modern sensibility and traditional textile techniques.

The shirt is made using a custom-developed chambray fabric, meticulously designed to replicate the texture and character of vintage workwear. Woven from 100% cotton, it features a naturally dry handfeel and subtle volume. From the yarn-spinning stage, every detail was considered to faithfully recreate this timeless texture.

The fabric is woven on an authentic shuttle loom, a hallmark of Shuttle Notes and Ueyama Textile, bringing warmth and depth to the textile — a signature of Japanese craftsmanship.

The embroidery details are carefully rendered using techniques that echo the charm of vintage shirts from the 70s, while updating the design with a contemporary edge. The stitching is intentionally kept hidden to enhance the overall soft, faded aesthetic.

On the back, a bold Thunderbird motif evokes the spirit of freedom and expression from the 1970s, while the geometric patterns on the front pockets bring nostalgic flair with refined balance.

This piece exemplifies the synergy between Shuttle Notes’ heritage weaving methods and refined embroidery techniques — developed in-house at Ueyama Textile, the parent company behind Shuttle Notes.
